The biggest percentage of bricks used for construction in Uganda are locally baked. This is done by setting the bricks into a mound and then wood is used to make a furnace to bake the bricks. It will take about 2-3 fully grown trees to bake a standard mound yet hundreds of mounds are baked everyday. The dilemma is in the fact that tree cutting isn’t regulated and the trees that are cut aren’t replaced. So if we lose hundreds of trees a day, how many do we lose a year?
